Most moderate physical activity, like gardening or working around the house, should be ok for most people. You shouldn’t have to seek medical attention to participate in those activities. However, there are people with chronic diseases like arthritis or diabetes that should speak to their physician to find out what types of exercise and at what level is doable for them. One way to decide if you need to speak to your physician before exercising is by completing the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire, or the PAR-Q.
